Alternative Energy - Solar Hot Water

Using the sun to heat your home through passive and active solar design can be both environmentally friendly and cost effective. In many cases, you can cut your domestic water and heating costs by more than 75% compared to the cost of heating the same house that does not include passive solar design and active solar systems.

Solar hot water systems use solar collectors or panels to absorb energy from the sun. Water or a heat-transfer fluid  is heated by the sun as it passes through the collectors. It then flows into an insulated storage tank for later use. 

EnCom provides complete solar hot water systems, for residential and commercial environments. These can be used for domestic hot water needs as well as radiant heating and in-floor heating. New equipment, using Chinese and German technology, enable the hot water collectors and circulation kits to provide hot water heating in up to –50 degree weather. More and more people are turning to solar hot water to heat their homes over traditional methods such as oil, gas and electricity. We can be inventive with hot water heating and install systems for wall heating, under floor heating, hot tub heating, swimming pool heating and even bed heating.  

Our Solar Hot Water systems make use of evacuated tube technology which is the most efficient solar collector used for water heating. The system consists of panels with 14 heat pipe evacuated tubes connected to a highly insulated top manifold. The heat pipe condensers insert into the blind sockets in the header pipe.  The outer tube is made of extremely strong transparent borosilicate glass that is able to resist impact from hail up to 25mm in diameter. The inner tube is also made of borosilicate glass, A magnetron sputtering process coats the outer surface of the inner tube which features excellent solar heat absorption and minimal heat reflection properties. The air is evacuated from the space between the two glass tubes to form a vacuumed space, which eliminates conductive and convective heat loss. Evacuated tubes can still work efficiently even on cloudy days, because it is able to absorb the energy from infrared rays passed through clouds.
